Weinstein Co. circles 'War from the Buttons'

The Weinstein Clients are settling to get Christophe Barratier's recent French pic "War from the Buttons."Pic, created by La Petite Reine and Studio 37, is dependant on Louis Pergaud's 1912 novel. Story focuses on two rival gangs of youngsters from neighboring French towns who wage a cruel play-war against one another. "Buttons" was 1 of 2 projects according to Pergaud's tome launched in France this season. Another version directed by Yann Samuell unspooled in September -- exactly the same month because the Barratier-helmed pic. Barratier helmed "The Chorus" in 2004, which continued to become major box office hit in Gaul and beyond. Miramax launched "Chorus" when TWC's Bob and Harvey Weinstein still went the banner. The siblings also labored with production company La Petite Reine, on Michel Hazanavicius' "The Artist," which TWC bows Friday. Sales company Wild Bunch repped both that pic in addition to Barratier's "Buttons." Contact Rachel Abrams at Rachel.Abrams@variety.com
